The recent news reports of Mr and Mrs Cameron leaving their daughter behind in a pub made me think of what I have left behind, or stories from people I know:

I may of left a things behind in shops when I bought them, once left a pork pie on a tight stall on the market. I hope who ever ate it enjoyed it. But I think this is my only major bit of forgetfulness.

Took the dog down to the shop with me, tied him up outside, came out of another door, got home, opened the door, no dog to greet me, where is he.............penny dropped............still tied up outside the shop.

I knew someone, new mum, must add here this was probably about 36+ years ago. Went to the same shop as above with baby in pram. Left pram with baby outside (you did that in them days), went home, was there sometime before she reaised that pram and baby were still outside the shop.....and before you ask...it wasn't me.

Couple who use to live next door to me had a little dog. Went on holiday with some friends. On the drive back they stopped in a lay by to stretch their legs and let the dog out so it could have a wee. Got back in the car, drove some 50 miles back home, got out the car, no dog. Their friends thought that Kath (next door neighbour) had the dog in the front on her lap, she thought they had the dog in the back with them. They had only been in their home a few minutes wondering what to do, when thankfully the phone rang and someone asked if they had lost a dog. The lady had found him wondering in some fields beside the busy dual carriageway while she was taking her dogs a walk she saw the idendtity disc on him and phoned the number. Back down they traveled to find him asleep in front of the ladies fire having just had a bowl full of tea, as happy as Larry.

Anyone else got any tales of forgetfulness......come on share them with us..............especially for us ladies....something to read while the football is on.

Here's mine

I use to foster new born babies before they went for adoption. So I didn't always have a baby in the house.
However, I once took one of the babies to the shop in his pram and then walked home minus pram and baby. Took me a while to remember I should have had a baby in the house at that period in time! Heart thumping I raced back and found him still tucked up fast asleep in his pram,
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

When my Daughter was younger, and I was well, I decided to go to Tesco's to do the weekly shopping. Before leaving the house, I checked that I had all the mountains of stuff that comes with a baby, I had my glasses, I had my handbag, I had my keys and off we went.

Spent over an hour with a fractious baby and lots of people in my way doing a full shop. Unloaded the trolley onto the conveyor belt, loaded the shopping into the bags (this was the days when they did not offer to help with packing), went into handbag to get purse, and yes you have guessed it, no purse. Bubble pops up of purse sitting on work surface in kitchen. Bright red face, flustered apologies, supervisor called, pulled to one side like I had been shop lifting, told they would keep my shopping for an hour whilst I went home to get money. Fractious baby crying even more as coming up to feed time. I slunk off home and made hubby go back to Tesco to retrieve shopping and pay for it.

Obviously as you can imagine, EVERY time I go shopping now the hubby reminds me "to take the purse". It was nearly sixteen years ago, as if I would be so stupid to do it again. BigGrin (we will not mention the OCD I now have every time I prepare to go shopping to make sure I am "equipped").

Pyjamas under the pillow in a hotel in germany,(didn't get them back), a half stitched bridesmaids dress on a train (didn't get it back), the car in a car park in town and got the bus home (did manage to retrieve the car later) the £50 cashback from Tesco (had to wait till the till was checked at the end of the day for that one) and worse one for me, left all my tablets behind in their tupperwarwe box in a travelodge, (they were brilliant and posted them back special delivery) Good job I don't have children I'd never have remembered them.
Best wishes to all

When my 3rd baby had just been born (Bobby)i left him in Tesco near the till. At the time i had a 10 year old and a 20month old who was in the trolley seat. I was pushing the buggy with the newborn in and totally forgot him after i paid for the shopping. Luckily my husband was with me and before we got outside said 'haven't you forgotten something?' to which i replied 'no!' Anyway he was still where i left him.

I left wrapping paper in Argos by the catologues and that was gone when i went back.

I left a nightie under the pillow at Butlins and a towel on a boat to Sweden!

These replies are making me laugh. We all have our senior moments then. At least we can now blame the drugs.

Just a little off topic here but what Jackie said about checking she's got her purse 16 years later after forgetting it. When I was a little girl and my mum and dad took me to the seaside my mum always use to make me wear my knickers under my swimming costume so I wouldn't catch a cold. I still to this day (55 in a few weeks)Blushing when going in a swimming pool, just before the water touches my bottom, check to make sure I have taken my pants off. I have been scarred for life!!!!!!!

Thanks Paula for starting this lovely post ThumpUp Certainly brought smile to my face today.

This one is not a case of leaving it behind, more of taking it with me !

When I worked in London many many moons ago now, only about twenty one, in my lunch hour I would walk up Regent Street and pop into John Lewis, in those days they sold a lot of material for dressing making and I would often do a bit of sewing. However on leaving the store, I had a quick browse at the hand bags, I looked at my watch and realise I was running late for getting back to work. I quickly ran out the shop and jumped on a red bus, in those days the buses had a platform at the back where you could just jump on ( where the conductor stood ). I fly up the aisle of the bus and look down and realise I have a John Lewis shopping back and I remember it had a rope handle, on my arm - In my panic I went into auto-pilot jumped off the bus at the traffic lights before it turned into Oxford Street ran for my dear life and flew into the shop and put the bag back on the shelf. I then ran back out and then thought what I had done ........... amazing I didn t get stopped both ways by store detective.!

These are brilliant - esp the knickers!!!

I regularly used to swop trolleys when I was pregnant and several times I got quite a long way with someone else's shopping and only noticed when they came running after me!

Quite recently I left the dog at my daughters' riding stable - I got all the way home and still didn't twig even when my hubby said "have you forgotten something??" I drove back to get her straight away and apparently she had been really upset as I had driven off, so for the next few weeks everyone at the yard kept reminding me "Don't forget Misty!"

Julia....I remember them buses, showing our age here aren't we? When Karen was little, in her buggy, I once walked out of Woolworths with her holding a flannel she had picked up off a shelf. Took it back, felt so stupid, but I suppose it happens alot. Once saw a sign in a shoe shop window asking the person who had stolen a shoe to come back to get the other one. I wondered if a child had taken in, mum not realising till she got home! Brings to mind a scene in Only Fools And Horses when Rodney was talking to his aunt and her telling him that she took him shopping once and when she got home he had items he collected in his pushchair. He asked if she took them back the next day and she replied...'Don't be silly, I took you to Harrods instead'LOL

Sylvia.....I once swapped my trolley in Morrisons. I couldn't put my trolley where I wanted to so I left it nearby. Got what I wanted, put it in the trolley and carried on shopping. Got to the other side of the store and took note of what I'd got in my trolley.............Spring Cabbage......Beetroot.....lots of other things I hadn't put in, realised that I had half of my shopping in and half of another shoppers. Someone must of moved my trolley when I left it, then someone else parked theirs in the same spot and I had stolen their trolley with their shopping in, I had waltzed off merrily blissfully unaware! Had to go back and put their things on the shelves and then get the rest of mineBlushing .

Only hope that the mystery shopper did the same. I couldn't blame the drugs in them days.
